Bit Pit is a 2D puzzle platformer where you, Bit, must get to the top of the massive pit.

I finally decided to sit down and make my first solo game. Finished in a little over 2 weeks, hope you enjoy!


Dev Log:

Day 1 (7/5)

-created project

-added wasd/arrow key movement (snap-to-grid) using new input system

-created single sample head sprite


Day 2 (7/6)

-created 4 sample head sprites

-made head points towards direction moving

-created body of size 3 that follows head upon movement

-made head unable to move to a location inside of body

-added ground grid and sample ground sprite

-made head unable to move to a location inside of ground

-implemented falling (entire snake moves downward when no part has ground directly beneath it after movement)


Day 3 (7/7)

-added checkpoints that, when touched, add a body part to the snake

-made additional body part pieces decrease in brightness (become closer to black in color) the larger their body part number is

-created ground tileset

-added flipping (snake head and last body part switch locations)

-prevented flipping right after adding a body part piece

-made head point in correct direction after flipping and when first created


Day 4 (7/8)

-new name: Bit Pit

-created spike sprite

-made spikes respawn player upon contact

-made checkpoints reset player respawn position

-created checkpoints flag

-made checkpoint switch from white flag to red flag once reached


Day 5 (7/9)

-designed section for 3 long snake

-made camera follow head's vertical movement with fixed horizontal position

-added sprite atlas to prevent screen tearing

-added pixel perfect camera to prevent screen jittering

-designed section for 4 long snake


Day 6 (7/10)

-designed section for 5 long snake

-designed section for 6 long snake


Day 7 (7/11)

-created yellow ground tileset and yellow spike

-designed section for 7 long snake

-designed section for 8 long snake


Day 8 (7/12)

-started designing section for 9 long snake


Day 8.5 (7/13)

-nothing :( (busy 7/12-7/14)


Day 9 (7/14)

-continued designing section for 9 long snake


Day 10 (7/15)

-finished designing section for 9 long snake

-designed section for 10 long snake

-created red ground tileset and red spike

-created opening cutscene and placeholder oscillating menu text


Day 11 (7/16)

-created "space to start" text sprite

-changed checkpoint reached sprite to green instead of red

-made tutorial text fade in and out with triggers

-created tutorial text sprites

-started designing section for 11 long snake


Day 12 (7/17)

-finished designing section for 11 long snake

-designed section for 12 long snake

-designed section for 13 long snake


Day 13 (7/18)

-created pink ground tileset and pink spike

-designed section for 14 long snake

-designed section for 15 long snake

-designed ending section


Day 14 (7/19)

-adjusted camera starting position

-created background tileset

-added background tiles to all sections

-added camera triggers to end section

-created apple sprite and made it oscillate


Day 15 (7/20)

-fixed camera triggers in end section

-created end cutscene, added black bars that move towards center

-created end text sprites

-made end text appear once black bars have reached center


Day 16 (7/21)

-created text sprites for eating animation

-added eating animation

-created title sprite

-fixed camera movements in opening cutscene (added easing)

-final playtesting

-final minor edits

I played a bunch, and it's really annoying that now I find out I can't finish. And even if you update it, I still don't get to play the rest of the game because it's locked behind all the parts I don't want to do over.

I'm confused on what you're trying to say. This is the finished game. Are you referring to the fact that reloading the game makes you restart from the bottom?

Yes. It takes a long time for one sitting, and it's really not fun to have to restart a puzzle game. Autosave is vital. Please finish the game.
